Law Clerks

We hire law clerks from local law schools who seek to train to become lawyers. The hope is that they impress us, and that we eventually hire them as attorneys once they pass the bar examination. We hire only thoughtful, experienced, and hard-working candidates who we think could make the cut. The benefit for you is that they charge significantly less than a licensed attorney and still provide an excellent work product. It is a true win-win for everyone, including the law clerks who seek valuable on- the-job training. Plus, it is also our way of paying it forward, as someone had to take a chance on every lawyer at some point.

Managing Shareholder

Jon A. Atabek

Professional Disposition: Jon is an experienced, energetic, thoughtful, careful, and creative litigator, with extensive experience litigating at all stages. He balances the needs of his clients, the bold realities and practicalities of litigation, and the law and facts of each case in a unique way to give his clients effective advice and get optimal results. Jon games out his cases, looking at the facts and law to try to see the many paths forward, constantly reevaluating as the case progresses and the landscape shifts, advising his clients of the same to make the best decisions possible. Most importantly, Jon executes those strategies by leveraging his energy, enthusiasm, and most importantly his team of talented attorneys and staff.

Jon also closely monitors his cases, taking the lead in outlining arguments and editorial control on court submissions, most arguments in court, and depositions. However, Jon is also careful to let attorneys with lower billing rates take the laboring oar on matters that can be handled by them, including even hearings and depositions where there is a high likelihood of success, preferring not to charge partner rates just to take a victory lap.

Practice Areas: Jon is experienced in a diverse range of practice areas, from general business-related litigation, to real estate litigation, personal injury litigation, and disability rights litigation, having at least some experience in each and every practice area listed on this firm’s website. Jon has taken a multi-disciplinary approach to his practice that permits him to often think outside of the box and find solutions that more niche litigators might miss. However, Jon is careful to collaborate with subject matter experts whenever his own experience is light, or where such niche experience and knowledge may benefit his clients. Jon has particularly niche experience in litigating commercial contracts and obtaining prejudgment writs of attachment thereon—a “rubber meets the road” area of litigation many litigators are not familiar with.

Trials and Arbitrations: Unlike many litigators, Jon’s experience includes numerous high-stakes trials and arbitrations. Those include three jury trials involving eight-figure disputes, and an arbitration involving a nine-figure commercial dispute regarding a telecommunications infrastructure developer against a telecommunications infrastructure equipment manufacturer.

Leadership at Atabek & Co: Jon also serves as the CEO and Litigation Chair of Atabek & Co. In these roles, Jon oversees the entirety of Atabek & Co’s firm business and sets standards and expectations applicable to litigation, and to firm operations generally, relying extensively on his team to help him execute on his vision.

Personal: Jon is a California native, through and through, having grown up between Manhattan Beach and Irvine, California, attended undergraduate studies in Claremont, California, at Claremont McKenna College, and earned his law degree from Loyola Law School in Los Angeles, California. He is also a devoted father, an avid cyclist (often riding his bike ten miles each way from his home to the office), and a hiker, surfer, and musician when time permits.

Senior Attorney

Tiffany D. Chukiat

Professional Disposition: Tiffany Chukiat is a senior attorney at Atabek & Co, who has practiced law in Orange County, California, since December 2009. She is an energetic and effective litigator, who has worked on and resolved a wide range of business and other civil litigation matters, varying in size, scope, and stakes, from simpler six figure collection matters to eight figure business tort matters. She has handled all phases of litigation, pre-litigation negotiation through judgment at trial. She is entrusted to handle complex litigation in an efficient and effective manner. Tiffany is a uniquely talented, even-keeled, and responsive communicator, adept at developing productive relationships with both her clients and opposing counsel to facilitate swift and cost-effective resolutions. Tiffany represents both plaintiffs and defendants on breaches of contract, fraud, conversion, breach of fiduciary duty, and unfair business practices disputes that have included trade secret, probate, trust, corporate formalities, and real estate issues. Tiffany also has experience defending corporate and individual clients against personal injury claims, and now helps with Atabek & Co’s high-stakes personal injury practice, in addition to her business litigation responsibilities.

Practice Areas: Some of Tiffany’s successes include, but are not limited to, obtaining pre-judgment writs of attachment for her international retail clients and for her fin-tech clients, as well as litigating these matters to judgment in her clients’ favor. She has also obtained stays and/or dismissals of lawsuits filed against her clients in improper forums for improper purposes. Further, Tiffany’s involvement in the late stages of contentious litigation (a residential real estate dispute alleging seller and broker misrepresentations) was instrumental in securing a favorable settlement for her client after she was able to identify the pertinent strengths and weaknesses of the client’s case and utilize the strengths to her client’s advantage in a contentious, multiphase series of mediations. Tiffany takes great pride in helping her clients to strategically resolve disputes without the need for expensive trials or arbitrations when the circumstances are appropriate.

Leadership at Atabek & Co: In addition to her work as a senior attorney at Atabek & Co, Tiffany is the marketing chair for the firm, in charge of developing and supervising means of promoting the firm’s brand image.

Personal: Tiffany obtained her Juris Doctorate from the Chapman University School of Law in May 2009, where she obtained the CALI Award for Legal Research and Writing. She obtained her Bachelor of Arts from the University of California at Los Angeles in 2006. Prior to joining with her Atabek & Co teammates in 2022, Tiffany practiced business litigation at two boutique litigation firms for over eleven years, and she practiced general civil litigation at a large insurance defense firm for two more. Tiffany is a native of Orange County, where she lives with her husband, two young sons, and two large dogs. She enjoys cooking and eating all types of food, listening to music, traveling, the outdoors, and balances a happy, healthy lifestyle with the demands of her career.
